Major Flaws In Govt's Jobs Strategy - Calleary
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs and Enterprise Dara Calleary has called for an unpublished Enterprise Ireland report on its current operations to be debated at the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs as a matter of urgency.
Deputy Calleary is writing to the Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Damien English seeking an early meeting with Enterprise Ireland, the Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton and his officials to discuss the report.
Deputy Calleary commented: "The contents of this audit as reported in the media today are extremely worrying. The fact that Enterprise Ireland is looking at ways to reduce its current workload underlines the need for more resources and more of a focus on government on jobs and investment. The loss of knowledge and experience at the agency is very serious and the need for up-skilling based on the media reports is compelling. We have been pointing out for some time the significant flaws in the Government’s jobs strategy and this appears to be confirmed in this report.
"This is no time for Enterprise Ireland or the government to be easing off on support for exporters and attracting new investors to Ireland. We are all aware of the budgetary constraints but the government has not spent all of the money earmarked for the Jobs Initiative on creating jobs and there is no sense in cutting back on job creation.
"I will be writing to Damien English, the Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs and Enterprise today seeking an urgent hearing with Minister Bruton and Enterprise Ireland to discuss this report."

700 Jobs Announced At Deutsche Bank
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD and IDA Ireland has welcomed the announcement by Deutsche Bank that the company is to create 700 jobs in Dublin in the coming years. Deutsche Bank plan to significantly grow its operations in Dublin by taking 100,000 square feet of office space at Eastpoint Business Park.
