Teenager 'Critical' After Car Accident

A 17-year-old boy who was hit by a car in L'Derry on Monday evening is said to be in a critical condition.

The teenager was on the Buncrana Road around 20:30 when he was hit by the car.

He has been transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast

W Belfast Man Shot In Legs

A man has been shot in both legs in west Belfast.

The shooting occurred on Monday night at about 20:20 at Iris Court off Springfield Avenue.

The man is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Antrim Company Fined Over Waste Management

A waste management company and a landowner from Crumlin, Co. Antrim have been fined £1,200 for waste management offences.

Mr Mark Gilmore (32) of Long Rig Road, Crumlin and Ecopart (NI) Limited of Long Rig Road, Crumlin, appeared at Antrim Magistrates' Court today.

Between January 2010 and January 2013, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency investigated a site, owned by Ecopart (NI) Limited, on the Long Rig Road, Crumlin where a substantial quantity of 'end-of-life' vehicles were stored.

Mr Mark Gilmore pleaded guilty to one charge of depositing controlled waste and two charges of keeping controlled waste without holding the necessary waste management licence.

Ecopart (NI) Limited pleaded guilty to one charge of permitting controlled waste to be deposited and two charges of permitting controlled waste to be kept without the operator holding the necessary waste management licence.

Farmer Fined For Polluting Waterway

A farmer from Dromore, County Down, has been charged £250 for causing polluting discharge to enter a waterway

Mr Alex Waugh, Blackskull Road, Blackskull, Dromore, was fined today at Newry Magistrates' Court.

On 17 January 2012, a Water Quality Inspector inspected a waterway at Blackskull Road, Blackskull, Dromore and observed extensive fungal growth on the bed of the waterway. In excess of 90 metres of waterway was affected by the discharge. The source of the polluting discharge was traced to a farm owned by Mr Waugh.

Environment Minister Edwin Poots has announced that a new waste management strategy is to be developed by the Department for the Environment, Agriculture and Rural Affairs. A new draft Environment Strategy for Northern Ireland includes a commitment to publish a new Waste Management Strategy by 2023.

Plastics Workers' Get Second Chance
The purchase of a bankrupt specialist plastics firm in Co Armagh by a new owner is expected to give the firm's former staff a new lease of life. Seventy people were working at Reflex Mouldings in Markethill when it went into administration in June. Now, the workers will be offered new jobs by the firm's new owners.
