Crossbow Bolt Fired Through Window

A man and woman have told UTV how a crossbow bolt was fired through the window of their flat in Belfast.

The incident happened at Donegall Mews, off the Donegall Road, on Tuesday evening at about 8.50pm.

The 42-year-old foreign national believes he could have been killed, if the bolt had struck him.

Taxi Driver Fined For Insurance Offences

A Belfast taxi driver has been fined a total of £300 for driving and insurance offences.

Mr Christopher Hart of Friendly Street, Belfast, was fined £75 and had six penalty points imposed on his driving licence for using his vehicle without a Public Service Vehicle Licence and a further £75 for failing to hold a taxi driver's licence.

He was also fined £150 with six penalty points endorsed on his driver's licence for failing to hold valid motor insurance and ordered to pay £32 court costs.

Elderly Man Dies In House Fire

An elderly man has died as a result of a fire in the village of Tempo, Co Fermanagh.

The fire was reported to police at about 11.50am this morning.

The man has not yet been named.

Women Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

Three women have been convicted at Belfast Magistrates' Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Stacy Buchanan (28) of Coronation Park, Dundonald, claimed Housing Benefit totalling £5,416 while failing to declare she was living with her partner. She was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £64.

Darryl Mahood (28) of Harland Walk, Belfast, claimed Income Support totalling £4,853 while failing to declare employment. She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £80.

Elish McDonald (37) of North Queen Street, Belfast, was given a 12 month probation order and ordered to pay court costs of £19 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £248.

Police Appeal After 'Shot Fired' In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after reports of a shot being fired in north Belfast. No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident in the Farringdon Court area on Thursday. Police are keen to establish what happened and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Suspended Prison Term For Fraudster
Nine people were convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Magistrates' court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to - with one handed a jail term. Colin McGookin (52) of Sheringhurst Park, Belfast claimed Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance totalling £25,168 while failing to declare employment.

Benefit Frauds Face Court Sanctions
Fraudsters are being made to pay the price for claiming a variety of benefits they were not entitled to. A total of 14 people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court yesterday with Joanne McBride (35) of Portallo Street, Belfast claiming Income Support totalling £4,451 while failing to declare she was working.

Armed Men Ransack South Belfast Home
Three men, two armed with a crowbar and a screwdriver, have ransacked a house in south Belfast. A 26-year-old man was in the property in Melrose Street at around 11am on Saturday at the time. The intruders ordered the resident to place a pillow over his face and they ransacked the property. The men left with a laptop.

Two Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Gerard Browne, 29, of Summerhill Drive, Belfast was given 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £377.
