Pipe Bomb Device Made Safe During Alert

A pipe bomb was made safe during a security alert in north Belfast on Thursday night.

According to police the "viable, pipe bomb type device" was discovered at Carlisle Parade at around 22:30 last night.

A number of homes in the New Lodge area were evacuated during the alert, with Carlisle Parade, Carlisle Terrace and part of Churchill Street were cordoned off.

Army bomb disposal officers were call in to examine the device and were able to make it safe.
