Man Charged Over Drugs Find

A 25-year-old man has been charged in relation to a drugs-find at a property in L'Derry last December.

Ecstasy and methadrone with a potential street value of £20,000 were found by the PSNI during a raid at the house in Hawkin Street on 20 December.

Two hand grenades, a machine gun and two handguns were also seized.

The man has been charged with possession of class A and class B drugs and intent to supply them.

He was further charged with two counts of assaulting police, obstructing police and possession of a class A drug.

Staff Member Shaken After N Belfast Robbery

A woman who works at a petrol station in north Belfast has been left badly shaken during an armed robbery on Tuesday evening.

A man entered the shop at Lanark Way at around 17:30 with what is thought to have been a firearm, before making off with a sum of money.

The man is described as being in his 30s, of medium build and with dark hair.

He was wearing a black hooded jacket with a red zip, a blue hooded top, and navy tracksuit bottoms tucked into white socks, and white and red trainers.

Tyrone Man Killed In Monaghan Crash

A man believed to have been from County Tyrone has been killed in a two-car collision in County Monaghan.

The man, who was in his 20s, was driving alone when his car collided with a second vehicle on the Dublin to Monaghan road near Carrickmacross at about 07:00.

Two people in the second car were taken to hospital in Drogheda.

Five Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

Five people were convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Brendan McCann (44) of Antrim Road, Belfast claimed Housing Benefit, Carers Allowance and Income Support totalling £10,484 while failing to declare employment. He was given 100 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £104.

Deborah McQuitty (54) of Clonduff Drive, Belfast claimed Housing Benefit totalling £5,870 while failing to declare an occupational pension. She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £28.

Paul Harrison (33) of Clandeboye Way, Bangor claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £4,799 while failing to declare capital. He was fined £600 and ordered to pay court costs of £104.

Dennis Harper (31) of Lenadoon Avenue, Belfast claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £4,514 while failing to declare employment. He was given 100 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £49.

Margaret McCann (54) of Stewartstown Avenue, Belfast claimed Income Support totalling £3,429 while failing to declare capital. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £37.

All are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Suspended Prison Term For Fraudster
Nine people were convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Magistrates' court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to - with one handed a jail term. Colin McGookin (52) of Sheringhurst Park, Belfast claimed Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance totalling £25,168 while failing to declare employment.

Benefit Frauds Face Court Sanctions
Fraudsters are being made to pay the price for claiming a variety of benefits they were not entitled to. A total of 14 people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court yesterday with Joanne McBride (35) of Portallo Street, Belfast claiming Income Support totalling £4,451 while failing to declare she was working.

Dole Frauds Pay The Penalty
Seven people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' Court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to along with two others in Lisburn. Robert Lee (34) of Commedagh Drive, Belfast was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £302.
