Police renew appeal in Strain murder enquiry
Police have renewed their appeal for information into the murder of a man five years ago in Co Antrim.
Detectives in Carrickfergus hope to use improved forensic techniques to find out how 28-year-old Charles Strain was murdered.
He was found lying dead in his Carnhill Walk flat by his father, Charles Strain Snr on June 3, 1998.
Police enquiries into the murder have revealed that Mr Strain had been drinking in the Tourist Inn at Eden, Carrickfergus on Sunday evening, May 31, 1998. A taxi driver collected him at around midnight and took him home. It was the last time he was seen alive.
Police received three separate suspicious 999 calls the following day to the block of flats where Mr Strain lived. However, when they responded to the calls, made to different addresses within the block, nothing was found. Police confirm telephone boxes at Bridewell Drive and Oakfield Drive in the town were used to make these calls.
Detectives at Carrickfergus are urging anyone who can assist them with their enquiries to contact them at 02890 259635 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
