North Belfast School To Take Part In 'Business Class NI'

Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland has awarded £8,000 to Mercy College to allow the school to participate in the 'Business Class NI' programme.

Following a visit to Mercy College Minister McCausland said: "Through this programme the local business community works with schools to help young people develop the skills, aspirations and motivation they need to succeed in the world of work. In this case I am sure that the students of Mercy College will be greatly motivated by having access to the expertise of the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust (BHSCT).

"This programme supports my Department's strategic objectives of economic, social and community renewal. The programme aims to improve the quality of life for people in some of our most deprived neighbourhoods."

Martin Moreland, Principal, Mercy College Belfast, said: "I would like to thank the minister for the award of the grant to help establish the school's 'Business Class NI' programme. It is very gratefully received and I wish to assure him that it is money well invested in the future of our pupils. I look forward to his continued support.

"I see this as an exciting venture and we have already developed links with the BHSCT and look forward to the school management, teachers and pupils gaining experience from them."
