NTR Broadband poised to launch service for NI
NTR Broadband, specialists in broadband wireless Internet access, have announced that it will soon launch a fixed price, ‘always-on’ broadband internet service in Northern Ireland.
A subsidiary of NTR plc, Ireland’s largest private developer and operator of public infrastructure projects, the company is currently rolling out its suite of broadband services in the Republic of Ireland.
The company, which will have its Northern Ireland head office in Belfast, is expected to announce the appointment of a Regional Director for Northern Ireland, and it is understood that negotiations are underway currently with a senior telecommunications industry executive from within the province, who is expected to head up the company. In addition, NTR Broadband expects to commence further recruitment shortly.
Through Invest NI and Western Connect in Londonderry, NTR Broadband will initially launch its service in Londonderry when 40 customers will be connected to their service from August.
Plans are also in place to roll out the service to other parts of Northern Ireland, including Belfast, Omagh, Strabane and Ballymena.
NTR Broadband will aims to offer value for money and introduce competition into a market sector dominated by the existing telecommunications service providers.
Paul Doody, Managing Director NTR Broadband, said: “We are currently carrying out trials on new innovative products, which we will roll out in Northern Ireland as soon as these trials are complete.
“These products will enable us to deliver high-end bandwidth in the 3 to 12 Mbps range using near Line of Sight, as well as a wireless DSL equivalent product for the residential market, which does not require line of sight.”
