NI Tax Cheats Revealed By HMRC
Two companies based in Northern Ireland have been added to the revised list of tax defaulters published by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
A Chinese restaurant in L'Derry and a haulage firm in County Armagh are among the thirteen UK companies newly named by HMRC as tax defaulters.
Rice Bow Ltd Chinese Restaurant, formerly of Springtown Industrial Estate in L'Derry, was fined over £38,000 for defaulting on almost £50,000 in tax for the period of May 2010 to July 2012.
Patrick Mackin of Gilford, Craigavon, was handed a penalty of just over £35,000 for owing over £83,000 in tax between the dates January 1, 2010 and 30 November, 2011.

Former HMRC Worker Sentenced For Tax Credit Fraud
A former HMRC worker who lied about being a single parent to claim tax credits has been handed a suspended sentence. Laura Southern worked as a HMRC Benefits and Credits Compliance Manager in Belfast, where her role was to check for fraudulent tax credit claims. Between 2012 and 2017 she fraudulently claimed £34,209.
