Man Sentenced Over Dissident Pipe Bomb
A man has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting possession of a pipe bomb linked to dissident republican activity.
Joseph Hugh Allen, 30, from Creggan Broadway, L'Derry, pleaded guilty to possessing the device between 1 November, 2007 and 15 September, 2011.
60 Jobs For Strabane Nightclub
Sixty new jobs are to be created in Strabane, County Tyrone, following the announcement of a new bar and nightclub in the town.
Ruby's bar and nightclub is expected to open at the end of the month and will create 25 full-time and 35 part-time jobs.
It will open at the former Katy Daly's nightclub site in the town.
£12m For Voluntary Youth Sector
£12m is being invested in the voluntary youth sector.
Education Minister John O'Dowd made the announcement, which will enable 53 capital projects to proceed as planned.
"This funding will be used for a variety of projects, including the refurbishment and upgrade of buildings to ensure youth facilities meet current health and safety standards through to the demolition of old buildings and construction of new, fit-for-purpose facilities," he said.
"It will benefit communities right across the north and will help the staff and volunteers in the youth sector deliver an improved service to the young people they cater for. This service is invaluable, particularly for those who face barriers to learning, and provides an opportunity for the development of skills and the improvement of educational outcomes outside of the formal learning environment."
Disruption Expected For Christmas Lights Switch-On
Motorists are being advised to expect disruption around City Hall this coming Saturday evening, as the city's Christmas lights are officially switched on.
Children's cartoon character Peppa Pig and her brother George are special guests at the switching on ceremony, and will join Lord Mayor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir at the event.
The event starts at 18:45, with roads around the City Hall closing from 17:30 onwards. Wellington Place, Donegall Square North and Chichester Street will be closed to through traffic, as will Donegall Place.
Diversions will be in place, and there will be alternative drop off and pick up points for Translink Metro services.

The Justice Minister Naomi Long has paid tribute to the work of those in Northern Ireland's prisons, youth justice and probation as part of Hidden Heroes Day 2021. During a visit to Maghaberry Prison, the Minister met with staff from across the facility who have worked throughout the pandemic to support the people in the care of the prison service.
