Irish President Lunches With Ian Paisley

Irish President Michael D Higgins has joined former DUP leader Ian Paisley at Belfast City Hall for a lunch with Sinn Féin Lord Mayor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir.

The meeting was organised by the Ullans Academy, an Ulster Scots society that seeks to bring people together through shared heritage.

Representatives of the British and Irish governments and inter community groups also attended the 'Feast of Columbanus' event, which was promoting common identity.

The lunch at City was just one of three engagements by the Irish President in Belfast today.

Later he will meet with representatives of the Irish Football Association, and will present the 17th annual Aisling Awards at the Europa Hotel this evening.
