Jury Out In Armagh Murder Trial

The jury in the trial of four brothers accused of a double murder in Co Armagh has retired to consider its verdict.

Niall, Martin, Christopher and Stephen Smith are accused of murdering Thomas O'Hare and his girlfriend Lisa McClatchey at the couple's home in November 2006.

During the trial, the brothers admitted entering the couple's home wearing masks, beating Mr O'Hare and spraying petrol around the property. They deny, however, that killing either of the victims was part of their plan. They said their intention had been restricted to burning the couple's home to force Mr O'Hare to leave the area.

Earlier in the trial, which is now in its fourth week, the court heard that Mr O'Hare had sexually abused Stephen Smith, the youngest of the four brothers, many years earlier.

Both Mr O'Hare and Ms McClatchey died from the injuries they received from the fire at their home in Tassagh, Armagh. The four accused were also badly burned in the attack.
