Core Systems NI Invests In Jobs

Belfast-based custodial management IT company Core Systems NI Ltd is investing £700,000 in an expansion and R&D project, with support from Invest Northern Ireland which will help to secure new opportunities in the US market.

Invest NI has offered over £167,000 of support to Core Systems NI Ltd towards an R&D project and the creation of eight high quality software development jobs which will enable the company to access new opportunities within the US marketplace. Invest NI's R&D support is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Jeremy Fitch, Executive Director of Business and Sector Development, Invest NI said: "Core Systems has a reputation for innovative, original products that deliver beyond client expectations. Its success in the highly competitive US market is testament to this small company's continued investment in R&D and in its people. The new jobs will generate over £240,000 annually in salaries, a welcome boost to the economy and a significant expansion for one of our most established local IT companies."

The company's commitment to R&D has already resulted in a strong export performance, particularly in the US. It has recently established a business relationship with a leading provider of inmate services to correctional facilities in the US giving the company a direct route to over 50 per cent of the US Corrections market.

M&S Drivers' Strike Looms

The future for a struggling Pennyburn fan belt factory, which currently employs around 110 people, is looking bleak. The manufacturing plant, Arntz Belting Company, went to a three-day week in December and also sought 28 redundancies in March. However, the global recession has led to the firm's parent company looking at further cuts.

Tipperary Hotel Refusal Hits Job Opportunities
News that the Irish Planning Appeals board has rejected proposals to build a contentious hotel development in Tipperary will disappoint local building contractors. The development, which received strong opposition from locals, was to be built on a Cashel site, formerly owned by the Presentation Sisters.
