Over 1,000 Bladder Patients Recalled

Over 1,000 patients who attended a bladder test at Belfast City Hospital have been asked to return following a review.

The Belfast Trust said it has recalled 1,113 urology patients as a precautionary measure.

All 1,113 patients who received a bladder camera test or a cystoscopy during 2012 and 2013 are affected by the recall.

The affected patients will be contacted by the Trust and asked to phone a dedicated advice line on (028) 9063 0500 to arrange an appointment. The lines were opened at midday today.

Trust Medical Director Tony Stevens said: "We have identified a small number of cases where the standard of care was not what we would have expected and therefore we are offering these patients an appointment with a consultant to have the procedure repeated. I must stress, this is precautionary.

"I fully accept this may cause patients worry and concern and for that I am very sorry, but my priority is to ensure that we have given our patients the best possible care."
