Aspen To Create 42 New Jobs

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, has announced that Aspen, a global pharmaceutical company, is to expand its Irish operation by adding 42 new high quality jobs.

The announcement is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

The company first established an operation in Ireland in 2010. In addition the company established a global regulatory, pharmacovigilance, quality assurance and supply projects centre of excellence in Citywest in 2012.

The new jobs will bring Aspen's total workforce in Ireland to 100 within the next 12 months.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said: "Pharma is a key sector we have targeted in our Action Plan for Jobs. In particular we have targeted generics and biopharma companies who continue to grow despite difficulties in the traditional pharma sector, and in the past two years employment has grown in the sector overall. Today’s announcement that Aspen, a major global pharma company in, is adding over 40 jobs in Dublin is very welcome and represents a further boost for the sector in Ireland."

Welcoming the announcement, Stephen Saad, Group Chief Executive of Aspen said: "I am delighted to see the continued growth of Aspen here in Ireland. Ireland's strong pharmaceutical sector provides a workforce with the specialised skills we require and a strong regulatory and business environment. I would like to thank the Irish Government and IDA Ireland for their support and look forward to the future development of Aspen in Ireland."

Offshore Company Axes Jobs
Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.
