Two In Court Over Explosives Charges

Two men are to appear in court today charged with possession of explosives.

The charges are in relation to a security alert at a children's play park in the Lagmore estate area in west Belfast which occurred early on Saturday morning (1 February).

A number of families were evacuated from their homes during the alert, while a number of items, including a suspected pipe bomb were removed from the scene at White Rise.

The two men, aged 38 and 25, are expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

A 27-year-old man who had been arrested in connection with the incident has since been released.

Shoukri Pleads Guilty To Paramilitary Membership
A leading north Belfast loyalist who appeared in court today has pleaded guilty to being a member of the Ulster Defence Association (UDA). Ihab Shoukri, 34, from Westland Drive, appeared at Belfast Crown Court today with five other men in relation to an arrest which had taken place at a bar in March 2006.

Man charged with extortion
A man has appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court today charged with extorting money on behalf of loyalist paramilitaries. Brian Gould, 35, from Pine Way, denied the charges read out to him after he was accused of receiving protection money from a Chinese restaurant owner on behalf of a paramilitary group, believed to be the UVF.

Willie Frazer Arrested For Bail Breach
Prominent loyalist campaigner Willie Frazer has been arrested for breaching his bail conditions. The 52-year-old was arrested on Monday at about 19:30 in the Portadown area. He is expected to appear in court today. Bail conditions were imposed following charges linked to union flag protests earlier in the year.
