Police Attacked In L'Derry Estate

Police officers have come under attack in L'Derry after they were responding to reports of petrol bombs being thrown.

Police received reports on Monday night that petrol bombs were being thrown from Nailors Row towards the Fountain Estate in the city.

Officers arrived at the scene just after 19:00 and came under fire from missiles.

Belfast Security Alert Ends

A security alert at the Tomb Street postal sorting office in Belfast city centre has ended.

Police said nothing untoward had been found at the central office. The alert began when a suspicious package was found on Tuesday afternoon.

Woman Sexually Assaulted In Belfast

A 20-year-old woman has been sexually assaulted in the Botanic area of south Belfast.

The incident occurred at about 02:00 on Tuesday in the Cameron Street area of the city.

The attacker has been described as being a foreign national and wearing a blue top.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have information in connection with the incident or noticed anything suspicious in the area to contact the PSNI Rape Crime Unit on 0845 600 8000.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Four Convicted Of Fisheries Offences

Four men have been found guilty of fisheries offences at Downpatrick Court.

Mateusz Burkowski from New Meadow Row, Castlewellan, County Down, was convicted of fishing by unlicenced and unfair means and trespass on a fishery.

Mr Burkowski was fined £200, an offender levy of £15, costs of £75 and court costs of £19.

Kluk Krzysztof from Onslow Parade, Belfast, was convicted of fishing by unlicenced and unfair means and taking pike in excess of the permitted two per day.

Mr Krzysztof was fined £150, an offender levy of £15, costs of £100 and court costs of £19.

Aiden Lawless from Mourne Park, Castlewellan, was convicted of fishing by unlicenced and unfair means and impeding an officer.

Mr Lawless was fined £125, an offender levy of £15, costs of £75 and court costs of £19.

Artur Roszczybiuk from Omeath Street, Belfas, was convicted of fishing by unlicenced and unfair means, taking pike in excess of the permitted two per day and impeding an officer.

Mr Roszczybiuk was fined £250, an offender levy of £15, costs of £100 and court costs of £19.

Suspended Prison Term For Fraudster
Nine people were convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Magistrates' court this week for claiming benefits they were not entitled to - with one handed a jail term. Colin McGookin (52) of Sheringhurst Park, Belfast claimed Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance totalling £25,168 while failing to declare employment.

Police Appeal After 'Shot Fired' In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after reports of a shot being fired in north Belfast. No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident in the Farringdon Court area on Thursday. Police are keen to establish what happened and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Two Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Gerard Browne, 29, of Summerhill Drive, Belfast was given 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £377.

Benefit Frauds Face Court Sanctions
Fraudsters are being made to pay the price for claiming a variety of benefits they were not entitled to. A total of 14 people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court yesterday with Joanne McBride (35) of Portallo Street, Belfast claiming Income Support totalling £4,451 while failing to declare she was working.
