Murder Inquiry After Woman Dies

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a woman in Co Tyrone.

Mairead McCallion, 36, was found at a property in Castleview Court, Omagh, on Sunday morning.

She had suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital, but died a day later.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed that detectives had launched a murder investigation.

An SDLP Councillor for the town, Josephine Deehan, paid tribute to Ms McCallion.

She said: "I want to express my condolences to Mairead's father, her brothers and sisters and all of her friends on their tragic loss. I knew Mairead and she was a very warm, caring woman. I called with the family last night and they are devastated.

"Everyone is very shocked and concerned that police have launched a murder investigation in our community and we all anxiously await the outcome of that."
