Ulster Rugby Launch Internal Investigation

Ulster Rugby has launched an internal investigation into the "alleged unauthorised absence" of player Nick Williams.

It is understood Williams, 30, returned to his native New Zealand last week.

He missed his team's win against Treviso in Italy on Sunday and is now also set to miss this week's game.

In a statement, the club said: "Nick Williams is unavailable for selection for Friday night's match against Newport Gwent Dragons due to an internal investigation into alleged unauthorised absence.

"Ulster Rugby will make no further comment on the matter at this time."

Williams, who plays back-row forward, joined Ulster in June 2012 and last October, he signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until summer 2016.

Before joining Ulster, Williams spent a year with Italian team Aironi, four years with Super 14 side the Blues, and two years with Irish province Munster.
