Police Station Site For New Housing Scheme
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has cut the first sod of a new £1.5m social housing project at Crossgar Road, Saintfield.
The development on the former police station site will see eight apartments and four houses delivered for families on the housing waiting list.
The new homes will be built to high energy efficiency standards and have been designed to Secured by Design and Lifetime Homes standards. They will also feature roof solar panels to assist water heating.
Constructed by Trinity Housing Association, the properties have been part funded by the Northern Ireland Executive through the Department for Social Development.
Speaking during a visit to the site, Minister McCausland said: "One of my key objectives as Housing Minister is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access good quality accommodation appropriate to their needs.
"This continues to be an area of high housing need and this scheme will take twelve families from the waiting list and provide them with the very best of quality, modern housing.
"Trinity Housing is to be congratulated for its' innovative thinking, excellent design and delivery of this project. I look forward to returning next year to see the completed scheme."
Robert Moore, Chairman of Trinity Housing, added: "We are pleased to be developing a new housing scheme in Saintfield on the site of the former PSNI station. Trinity Housing is committed to delivering quality homes for those in housing need. We look forward to the scheme being completed in February 2015."
A scheduled completion date for the project has been given for February 2015.

Crumlin Social Housing Scheme Opened

Minister Praises North Belfast Housing Project
Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA has officially handed over keys to the first residents of a £7.3million housing development on Belfast’s Antrim Road today. Built on the site of the former Milk Marketing Board headquarters, the project was led by Oaklee Housing Association and funded by the Department for Social Development.

Brewery To Become New Homes
A new £25m housing scheme has been approved for the old Bass Brewery in west Belfast. Some 166 new homes will be built in what is being billed as one of the largest social housing schemes undertaken in Northern Ireland. It will also create much needed employment - with some 200 on-site jobs boosting the beleaguered construction industry.
