£400k Funding Announced For Derry GAA

Funding to the tune of £417,491 has been announced for Derry GGA Culb by Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland.

The funding will be used for a new multipurpose sports changing and meeting space complex to be built at Lowry’s Lane, Glen Road, Londonderry.

Announcing the funding, Minister McCausland said: "This further capital investment of £417,491 illustrates my commitment to improving facilities for those living within the Outer West Area of Londonderry. This complex will for the first time, give residents of all ages their own sporting facility which will open up opportunities for them to engage with local, county, regional and national clubs.

"It will give the local community the opportunity to become actively involved in programmes such as culture awareness, dance and the delivery of health and well-being programmes including drugs, alcohol and gambling awareness sessions and also promote social and community development opportunities for all residents of all age groups."

Mark Higgins, Chairperson of Doire Colmcille CLG said: "We are delighted with this announcement of funding which will allow the residents, young and elderly, to enjoy the opportunities the multipurpose sports changing and community meeting space complex will bring. This facility is much needed and will meet the needs of many residents living in the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal area."

Orange Order Agrees To Nationalist Talks
The Orange Order has agreed to engage in talks with a nationalist residents group in north Belfast, following an appeal by a unionist residents group. The Twaddell and Woodvale Residents Association asked local Orange lodges to speak to the Crumlin and Ardoyne Residents Association to find a way to help the 12th of July parades pass off peacefully.

14 Cancer Charities Receive Grant Funding Totalling £7.95m
Fourteen cancer charities have received grant funding totalling £7.95 million, Health Minister Robin Swann has announced. The payments have been made through the Cancer Charities Support Fund, part of a £24m package of funding made available in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support carers, cancer charities and mental health organisations.

New drive for access to lottery funding launched
Community groups from across Northern Ireland have been encouraged to make use of lottery funding as part of the newly launched 'Fair Share' scheme. The UK-wide programme is designed to target initiatives within communities which have so far received less than their fair share of proceeds from the National Lottery.
