NI health and social services top UK table

A new survey has revealed that Northern Ireland has the lowest management costs in health and social services in the UK.

Commissioned by the NHS Confederation in Northern Ireland, the report confirmed that Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK where hospitals and social services are run by the same body.

Commenting on the survey, Dr Paula Kilbane of the NHS Confederation said she thought it unlikely that plans to restructure health service management would save money.

However, she did say that the report confirmed Northern Ireland was most efficient for such areas.

The NHS Confederation in Northern Ireland represents managers in health boards and trusts across the province.
