North Down DUP Cllr Defects To UKIP

John Montgomery, a North Down Councillor for the DUP, has defected to UKIP.

The 65-year-old has served three terms on the North Down council.

According to the BBC, he said he has chosen to move to UKIP because the DUP has become "a bit dictatorial".

"I was unhappy with the way the DUP run things," he said. "Locally they are a bit dictatorial and I don't have the freedom I need to get on with my work."
