Charges Dropped In Larne Disturbance Case

Two men, who appeared in court charged with offences in relation to disturbances in Larne last week have had their charges against them dropped.

According to reports, the pair, aged 24 and 30, had been charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon, but at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Friday morning, the judge threw out the case due to insufficient evidence.

Police had said the charges related to an incident in the Larne area on Saturday (29 March), when two arrests were made after a fight broke out. The following evening, up to 100 people were involved in disorder in the Knockdhu Park and Ferris Avenue areas. A number of people were assaulted, while homes and vehicles were damaged in the disturbances.

Police have blamed the incident on a faction of the loyalist UDA.

Despite the case being thrown out of court, police have said they are still investigating the matter.
