Stiff Kitten Closes
Belfast's popular Stiff Kitten nightclub is to close following a decade in business, the owners have confirmed.
"It is with heavy hearts that we have decided to close the doors of the Stiff Kitten for the last time today, and move on," a statement said. "We have so many happy memories associated with this place and the wonderful nights we've put on there over the last decade."
The rising popularity of Belfast's city centre and Cathedral Quarter, along with a general decline in activity in the Shaftesbury Square/Dublin Road area, have been cited as contributing factors in the club's closure.
"The Stiff Kitten site has always been a problematic location to do business in, and this has only became more of a challenge in recent years with a general shift towards the Cathedral Quarter," the statement continued. "This coupled with the many other projects our associated businesses have to focus on, has meant that we cannot give the Stiff Kitten the attention and considerable investment it requires to thrive again. It was very much a club of its time, and that time has now passed."
But, the club's owners told followers on Facebook that they had "some exciting new projects in the pipeline."
A statement said: "In the meantime to all who danced, worked and performed, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to do what we love for a living."

Suspected puppy farm discovered in County Down
Animal welfare officers have discovered 100 dogs in what is believed to be a puppy farm in the Katesbridge area of County Down. The animals were found during a joint operation between the USPCA and the PSNI. A spokesman for the USPCA said: "We believe that this significant operation has helped break up a puppy farm.

TDs are debating whether or not to introduce a measure in the Republic of Ireland that would see clocks move an hour forward; putting them out of sync with Northern Ireland.

Lord Mayor Pat McCarthy will be joined by former Atomic Kitten singer Liz McClarnon and TV star Calum Best to switch on the city’s Christmas lights on November 21.

The airline British European has announced they are axing scheduled flights to London Stansted from Belfast City airport. The airline’s four daily flights to Belfast, operated by Bombardier CRJ aircraft, will cease on 3 September.
