Honorary Degrees For NI Film Stars

Two film stars have received honorary degrees from Northern Ireland's universities.

On Monday, Ciaran Hinds received a degree from Queen's University, Belfast, for his services to film and drama; while Roma Downey, from L'derry, was honoured by the University of Ulster, of which she is an alumna.

She received a Doctorate of Fine Art (DFA) for her contribution to acting and philanthropy.

It is understood the university is also presenting honorary degrees to author and former BBC correspondent Fergal Keane and screenwriter Frank Cotrell-Boyce.

Man Stable Following Slurry Tank Accident

A man is said to be in a stable condition in hospital after he was involved in a slurry tank incident at a farm in Co Armagh.

No further details have been released, but a spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive confirmed it was "aware" of an incident" and had launched an investigation.

McDowell Secures French Open Title

Graeme McDowell has retained his French Open title.

The 38-year-old started the day eight shots behind the leader Kevin Stadler but he was able to make his way back up the leaderboard to win by one shot.

Speaking after the win, McDowell said: "This is a really good kick-start to my summer. I feel very fortunate. Kevin Stadler is a great, great player. I really needed this victory. It's a special one for me."

Woman Indecently Assaulted In L'derry

A woman is said to have been indecently assaulted in L'derry last week.

Police have said they are appealing for information into the incident.

It is understood the victim, who is in her 20s, was approached by a man at William Street in the city in the early hours of Monday 30 June. He started talking to her and as she moved away, the man grabbed her and indecently assaulted her. The woman managed to escape and left in a friend's car.

Police have said the man is described as being in his mid-20s, with dark hair and of thin build.

Man Jailed For Manslaughter Of David James Conville
A 31-year-old man has been jailed at Belfast Crown Court for the manslaughter of David James Conville in south Belfast in May, 2022. Edward Kelly was sentenced to serve three-and-a-half years, half of his sentence will be served in custody and half will be served on licence, following his guilty plea last November.

Woman Sexually Assaulted In Omagh
Police have appealed for information after a 24-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Omagh. The attack is thought to have happened in a walkway in the Johnston Park area between 1am and 3am on Sunday (30 November). Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may be able to assist the investigation.

Woman Found Unconscious On Co Down Road
A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.
