Large Hole Discovered On Ravenhill Road

The Ravenhill Road in east Belfast has been closed off following the discovery of a "large void" at the junction with Park Road.

Commuters driving into town on Tuesday morning were redirected down the Ormeau Road and further along the embankment after contractors discovered the hole while undertaking work for NI Water.

NI Water said: "The Ravenhill Rd had been operating with one lane under temporary traffic signals to facilitate the NI Water work. Emergency work will now be undertaken by NI Water to ensure the road is structurally sound. It will therefore be necessary to close the Ravenhill Road completely for the safety of the road users. The work to fill the void will be completed as quickly as possible, however until such times traffic will be diverted onto the Ormeau Road at the Rosetta roundabout (city bound) and the Ormeau Embankment (country bound) with the Ravenhill Road fully closed between Ravenhill Park and South Parade.

"We understand that this will cause disruption and ask motorists to be patient while these vital repairs are completed."
