Man Injured In L'Derry Assault
A man has been seriously injured with a suspected fractured skull and broken jawbone following an assault outside a bar in L'Derry.
The 23-year-old was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital after the incident, which occurred in the Park Avenue area at about 19:00 on Tuesday.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He was admitted to hospital with a suspected broken leg.
Antrim Convicted Of Pollution
A County Antrim farmer has pleaded guilty and was given an absolute discharge at Ballymena Magistrates' Court today.
Mr William Thomas McMaster, of Waterfall Road, Glenoe, Larne, was convicted of making a polluting discharge to a waterway. Court Costs of £37 were imposed.
On 18 October 2013, a Water Quality Inspector acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, (NIEA) inspected the Carneal Water, a tributary of the Glenoe Water, and saw the water was brown in colour and had an accumulation of foam on the surface.
It was concluded that about 450 metres of the waterway was affected and an agricultural odour was also detected. The source of the discharge causing the pollution incident was traced to the farm premises of Mr McMaster.
DENI Funds 29 Teacher Redundancies
The Department of Education is to fund a further 29 teacher redundancy applications.
Education Minister John O'Dowd said: "Last month I approved 76 applications. Following a review of the remaining applications I have agreed to approve a further 29 teacher redundancies.
"These redundancies are not voluntary as portrayed by some, rather this has been a strategic cost reduction programme. I set out last year that I had redistributed monies from within my own Department, away from redundancies to front-line services. My intention is to pay wages and provide a fit-for-purpose education service and in doing so reduce the number of redundancies across the education sector."
