Pair Convicted Of £15,000 Benefit Fraud

Two men have been convicted at Newry Magistrates' Court for claiming more than £15,000 in benefits they were not entitled to.

43-year-old Thomas Mackin of Ballynaris Lane, Dromore was given an absolute discharge for failure to declare capital while claiming Jobseekers Allowance totaling £12,765.

Mr Mackin is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Joseph Mackin, 59, of Ballynaris Lane, Dromore was given and absolute discharge for failure to declare capital while claiming Jobseekers Allowance totaling £2,827.

Mr Mackin has repaid the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Drop In Number Of People Claiming Unemployment Benefits
The number of people claiming unemployment benefits in Northern Ireland has dropped. The total now stands at 31,600, a fall of 300 in February, according to the latest figures. Employee jobs also increased over the quarter to December 2016 by 0.2%. Manufacturing output also rose in the last quarter of 2016, a rise of 4.
