Woman Dies In Newtownards Road Collision

An 18-year-old woman has died in a road crash in Newtownards, County Down.

The woman was driving a silver Peugeot when it collided with a blue Audi on the Portaferry Road on Sunday at about 20:30.

The male driver and a passenger of the Audi were taken to hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The Portaferry Road was closed overnight but has since reopened.

Alliance Strangford MLA Kieran McCarthy said: "I am deeply saddened that another life has been lost on our roads. I would like to send my condolences to her family and friends at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.

"We must do more to improve road safety and ensure that no more lives are lost. I would urge all road users to take extra precautions when they are out on the road and to be vigilant of others."

Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the road around the time of the collision to contact Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station or local police in Newtownards on the non-emergency number 101.

Woman Killed In Co Armagh Road Collision
A woman in her 30s has been killed in a road crash in Portadown, Co Armagh. The woman was hit by a car as she was walking on the side of the Moy Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday. The road was closed for a short time but it has been reopened. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
