Graffiti Attack On War Memorial In Stoneyford

A war memorial has been vandalised in a sectarian attack in Stoneyford in the early hours of this morning.

This is the second attack on the memorial in the past three months.

Lisburn Ulster Unionist Councillor Robbie Butler condemned the attack.

He said: "It is particularly saddening that shortly after both the UK and the Republic of Ireland were united in mourning the 100 year anniversary of the outbreak of World War One this sort of mindless sectarianism could take place.

"The people responsible for this attack need to move on. Republicanism can no longer maintain its blind hatred towards all aspects of Britishness. Even Sinn Féin condemned the attack on this memorial on the last occasion it was attacked. The people responsible for this attack cannot claim any support from any section of the community."
