Men Arrested Over L'Derry Hijacking

Two men have been arrested following a hijacking in L'Derry on Wednesday 20 August.

The men, aged 22 and 23, were arrested in the Primrose Street area and remain in police custody.

Foyle Detective Inspector Cherith Craig said: "Shortly after 10pm, it was reported that a white Kia Picanto car was driving from Free Derry corner towards Northland Road when the vehicle was stopped by a man standing in the road. It is believed the driver was ordered out of the vehicle and two men made off from the scene. The driver, although not injured was left badly shaken during the incident."

Appeal Over North Belfast Shooting

Detectives in north Belfast are appealing for information following a report of a shooting in the Wallasey Park area on the evening of Wednesday 20 August.

Just after 22:10, it was reported that two men were driving in the Carr's Glen area, when something was thrown at the vehicle.

The vehicle then stopped and both men got out of the car. It is believed that one of the men, believed to be in his 40s, was treated at a nearby hospital for injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.

Woman Assaulted In Coleraine Mugging

Detectives in Coleraine, County L'Derry have appealed for information following a report of a robbery at the James Street area on the evening of Wednesday 20 August.

It was reported that just before 21:50 a female was in an alleyway in the area. Police said two males and one female came from the Ballycastle Road area and pushed the female from behind, before making off on foot.

It is believed that a handbag was taken during the incident, but was later recovered a short time later. A sum of money and other items were stolen during the incident.

The female was left badly shaken and received facial injuries that were not believed to be life threatening. Enquiries are continuing.

Hijacked Lorry Alert 'A Hoax'

A security alert in L'Derry has ended after an object in a hijacked lorry was declared to be a hoax.

The alert began yesterday evening but ended after an examination by an Army Bomb Disposal team declared the object a hoax.

Commenting on the alert, Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan, the Foyle Area Commander, said: "This security alert caused a great deal of inconvenience to the people of Derry, including those who work in businesses close to the scene and also those who travel along Buncrana Road and Springtown Road, both of which are major arterial routes.

"However we must all remember that despite the major inconvenience caused, this was undoubtedly a frightening experience for the lorry driver. Today a man was going about his normal day-to-day work when he was confronted by masked men and ordered to drive with what he was told was a bomb to the police station.

"Information can be given to us in a variety of ways; by calling the detectives at Strand Road on the 101 number; by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111; or by liaising through a community or civic representative."
