Man Escapes Gun Attack

A man has escaped an attack by gunmen at his house in Ballymoney, County Antrim.

Several men burst into a house on Henry Street at about 23:30 on Tuesday evening. A number of shots were fired at the victim, but he was not injured.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Haulier Fined Over Animal Suffering

A haulier has been convicted at Craigavon Magistrates' Court of transporting livestock in a way that caused or was likely to cause suffering to the animals.

Mr Alan Greenaway, Teagy Road, Portadown, Co Armagh, was convicted on 2 September 2014 of the charge, in relation to the transportation of eight sheep.

Mr Greenaway pleaded guilty and was given a conditional discharge for one year, plus £25 costs.

The charge related to the transportation of a total of 47 sheep to an abattoir in Northern Ireland. A DARD Veterinary Officer at the abattoir examined the sheep and discovered that eight of them were unfit for transport and were caused unnecessary suffering as a result.

Four Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

Four people have been convicted at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

41-year-old Ursula McCorry of Derrytrasna Road, Lurgan claimed Housing Benefit totalling £4,535 while failing to declare she was living with her partner. She was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £31.

27-year-old Emma Scullion of Glencroft, Magheralin claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £684 while failing to declare employment. She was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

27-year-old Ruairi Kelly of Parkside, Portadown claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £3,645 while failing to declare employment. He was given a three year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £37.

37-year-old Tanya Campbell of Clougher Court, Lurgan claimed Income Support totalling £3,603 while failing to declare employment. She was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £56.

All are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Man In 'Serious' Condition After Road Crash

An elderly man is described as being in a serious condition following a crash in County Antrim.

The incident occurred on the Drones Road near Armoy just before 18:00.

The man, thought to be in his 80s, was taken to the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.

Pair Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Two people have been convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. 28-year-old Heather Wray of Tranarossan Avenue, L'Derry, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,283 while failing to declare employment.

Woman Convicted Over £28,000 Benefit Fraud
A woman has been convicted at Newtownards Magistrates' Court for claiming almost £30,000 in benefits she was not entitled to. 55-year-old Mary McCluskey of Steel Dickson Avenue, Portaferry, County Down, claimed Housing Benefit, Income Support and Carers Allowance totalling £28,360 while failing to declare she was living abroad.

SDLP Councillor Fined For Driving Offences
A 26-year-old SDLP councillor has been fined £300 and given a 12 month conditional discharge after admitting four driving offences. James Anthony Carr, or Merriman Court, was also given six penalty points. It is understood that in the incident a teenager who ran onto the road from behind a parked bus was struck by a van driven by Mr Carr.

Woman gets conditional discharge for benefit fraud
A woman has been convicted at Belfast Magistrate’s Court today for living with her partner while claiming benefit as a single person. Elizabeth McClean, 36, of Connsbrook Drive, Belfast, was given a two-year conditional discharge for claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit to the value of £3,790.

£22,096 Benefit Fraudsters Convicted
Three benefit fraudsters have been convicted of claiming a total of £22,096 they were not entitled to. All three will have to repay the sums to the Social Security Agency. The biggest sum claimed was by a County Down man.
