Bangor Directors Agree Disqualification
Disqualification undertakings have been agreed from the directors of a property letting company in Bangor, County Down.
The undertakings for seven years were received from Douglas Elliott (66) and June Elliott (65), both of Sheridan Drive, in respect of their conduct as directors of Ormeau Gasworks Limited.
The Company carried on the business of property letting from The Batik Building, The Gasworks, Ormeau Road, Belfast and entered administration on 16 March 2012 with estimated total assets available for preferential creditors of £3,228,526, liabilities to preferential creditors of £3,948,000, liabilities to non-preferential creditors of £1,011,406, and an estimated deficiency as regards creditors of £1,730,880. After taking into account the losses incurred by members (the shareholders) of the Company the total estimated deficiency was £1,730,882.
The Department accepted the disqualification undertakings from Douglas Elliott and June Elliott on 8 August 2014.
Belfast Council Receives Recycling Award
Belfast City Council has been awarded for achieving a 40% recycling rate – its highest yet.
The Sustainable Ireland Awards were held at the Ramada Hotel on Wednesday night. The council received the Council Award for Excellence in Waste Management.
Councillor Steven Corr, chairman of the council’s Health and Environmental Services Committee, said: "I’m delighted that the hard work of council, and indeed our ratepayers, has been recognised with this very prestigious award.
"We have made significant strides in driving up the city’s recycling rate in recent years and we have now reached the 40% mark, meaning we are well on course to achieve our 45% recycling target for 2014-15."
Archaeology Volunteers Wanted
The Department of the Environment has called on local volunteers to get involved in the second phase of excavations at Tullaghoge Fort near Cookstown in County Tyrone.
Starting Monday 8 September, the DOE’s Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) is undertaking archaeological excavations at Tullaghoge Fort, which will run for three weeks to 26 September.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said:“Tullaghoge Fort is of significant international importance. It is a key place in our landscape, a place where historic events unfolded and where we can examine the past and how it reflects on our lives today.
"An important goal of the project is to help grow the local economy by improving tourism access and facilities at the monument. Alongside this we are also attempting to uncover new information to better understand Tullaghoge, how this place was used in the past and to add to its rich history which stretches back over 5,000 years. We want the local community to be involved, so we are inviting school children and volunteers to join us on the excavation and be part of this very exciting project."
Clogher Road Scheme To Begin
Work is to begin on a £165,000 resurfacing scheme on the A4 Ballagh Road, Clogher, County Tyrone.
The resurfacing will start at the junction with Annagh Road and extend towards Clogher for approximately 1,040metres
The work is planned to be undertaken over a four day period; from 12 to 13 September and 19 to 20 September.

Belfast City Council has won a waste management award for its kerbside box recycling scheme. The scheme was named Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management 2014. The council’s recycling box initiative is collected by Bryson Recycling and serves 55,000 households in Belfast.

Michael Quesnele is to join the Belfast Giants for the 2016/17 Elite League season. The Canadian holds Italian Citizenship and takes the Giants final EU spot on the lineup. He spent the 2015/16 season with the Coventry Blaze, where Quesnele posted nine goals and 16 assists, good for 25 points in 60 games played.
