Planning Granted For £700k Downpatrick Vet
Planning approval has been granted for a new £700,000 veterinary hospital in Downpatrick, County Down.
The proposal is for a purpose-built practice at the site of the former South Eastern Regional College building on Church Street in Downpatrick.
The applicant, the Castle Veterinary Group, is moving its operations from smaller premises on Church Street, a short distance away.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said: "This is good news for Downpatrick. This major investment will boost the local economy and be of benefit to both the local rural and urban population. It will provide construction jobs in the short term with further skilled jobs created in the long term.
"This decision, like a number I have announced recently, has been turned around quickly and shows once again how the planning system can and is delivering for business. I will continue to ensure that the right decisions are made as quickly as possible and that DOE delivers a better environment and a stronger economy."
The project has secured funding of £180,718 from the Urban Development Grant programme administered by the Department for Social Development. The construction cost of the project is approximately £700,000, with a completion date of early April 2015.
