Schools Closures Announced

The Department of Education has approved development proposals to close St Francis of Assisi Primary School and Envagh Primary School in Castlederg, County Tyrone.

Education Minister John O'Dowd said "Both St Francis of Assisi and Envagh Primary Schools have provided excellent education to children from the local community, but over the years the schools have suffered from declining enrolments. St Francis of Assisi has a current enrolment of 16 pupils and Envagh Primary School’s enrolment is 12 pupils this year.

"Having considered all the relevant information including the number of spare school places in the Castlederg area, I have decided to approve the proposals to close St Francis of Assisi and Envagh Primary Schools, with effect from 31 August 2015."
