Antrim Security Alert Ended

A security alert in County Antrim sparked by the discovery of a suspicious object has ended, after 'nothing untoward' was discovered.

The Ballycraigy Road was closed on Thursday evening to allow the army bomb squad to examine the object.

The alert has since ended and all roads have been reopened to traffic.

Men Escape Injury In Limavady 'Arson' Attack

Two men have escaped injury in a suspected arson attack in Limavady, County L'Derry.

The fire on the Alexander Road was reported to fire crew at about 03:40 in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood one man managed to get out of a ground floor flat after a smoke alarm went off, while a second was helped to safety by firefighters.

It is thought the fire may have been started deliberately outside the flats.

E Smartcard For Strangford Ferry Announced

A new electronic Smartcard for use on the Strangford Lough Ferry Service has been announced.

The new Smartcard for the County Down service will be introduced on 6 October 2014 and will replace the current paper discount tickets.

Any already purchased paper tickets will continue to be accepted for travel until 5 October 2015.

Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A woman has been convicted at Londonderry Crown Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

32-year-old Jennifer Eagleson of Leckagh Drive, Magherafelt claimed Income Support, Carers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £35,152 while failing to declare employment. She was given a nine month prison sentence suspended for two years.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Man Dies In County Antrim House Fire
A man in his 50's has died following a house fire in County Antrim. The incident took place on the Carlane Road near Tommebridge on the evening of Wednesday 14 November. Police received a report of the fire shortly after 8pm. The man was taken to hospital for treatment but died soon after.

Man Dies In Workplace Accident In Co Armagh
A man has died in a workplace accident in Co Armagh. It is believed the man was crushed by a road roller while a new road surface was being laid on the Bog Road, Forkhill, on Wednesday, 31 May. Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation.
