Four Convicted Over Clocked Cars

Four drivers have pleaded guilty and been convicted at Newry Crown Court for offences connected to fraud and forgery of tachograph (speedometer) records.

Mr Sean Thornton, of Newry Road, Crossmaglen, was sentenced to 11 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

Mr Daniel Crangle, of Castleward Road, Downpatrick, was sentenced to 11 months imprisonment suspended for two years.

Mr Jonathan Bell, of Croob Park, Inch, was sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for two years.

Mr Thomas Keenan of County Monaghan was sentenced to five months imprisonment suspended for two years.

The charges related to a joint investigation by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) and PSNI between April 2012 and September 2012 into the operation of vehicles owned by M&S Freight Forwarding Limited, Keady.

Each driver was charged with one offence of fraud and forgery. The charges covered a total of 68 records concealing a total of 6,380 miles.

Three men were sentenced for offences linked to a drugs and money laundering operation in the Ballymena area yesterday, 31 January. At Antrim Crown Court, Troy Carley (27), Neil Lowry (30) and Marc Mitchell (32) were sentenced for a number of offences.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.
