GOH Claim Wheelchair Access Scheme Is Being 'Misused'

The Grand Opera House in Belfast claims it has evidence that its wheelchair access scheme is being misused.

The venue says it believes the scheme, which allows people in wheelchairs one free ticket for a carer, is being misused as "an opportunity to avail of free tickets".

The opera house has said that it will now review the scheme, which previously did not require those who used it to prove they needed special access.

It is understood that some 1,200 have signed up to the scheme since it was launched in 2012, and the venue will now write to those users explaining that a review is to take place.
