Woman Receives Community Service For Benefit Fraud

A L'Derry woman has been convicted for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Anne Clarke of Fanad Drive, claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £7,312 while failing to declare employment. She was given 100 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Kelly Named Alliance Party's Candidate For South Antrim

Councillor Neil Kelly has been named the Alliance Party's candidate for South Antrim and will fight to secure the seat in next year's general election.

The Antrim Councillor was selected this week and said he was both 'honoured' and 'delighted' to have the full faith of the Party behind him.

He said: "I am very proud to have been selected to stand for election for Alliance and I'm looking forward to getting out and about, meeting with local constituents and delivering the Alliance message of a shared future to a wider audience."

Road Users Urged To Be Extra Attentive On Roads

Road Safety Minister Mark H Durkan today asked all road users to be extra attentive on the roads as the clocks go back this weekend.

Traditionally, the coming four months see more death and serious injury on our roads during darkness than any other four month stretch.

Mr Durkan said: "As the clocks go back with the end of summertime, I want to remind all road users to be extra vigilant during the darker hours and pay attention in the worsening weather conditions and the deteriorating light. During the last five years, the months November to February recorded a higher proportion of road fatalities happening during darkness than any other four month stretch. In 2013 40% of road deaths and 33% of serious injuries happened when it was dark.

"I therefore advise people to think about the changing conditions and reflect this in how you drive, ride, cycle or walk."
