Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A woman has been convicted of benefit fraud at Banbridge Magistrates' Court.

Colleen Potts, 26, of Coolnacran Road, Banbridge claimed Income Support and Carers Allowance totalling £3,324 while failing to declare employment. She was given an absolute discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

Ms Potts has since repaid in full the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

East Belfast Homes Attacked

Three homes have been damaged in attacks in east Belfast.

The attackers broke windows at the properties on the Albertbridge Road at about 21:40 on Monday evening.

No-one was injured, but one of the properties belongs to an elderly woman who had just been discharged from hospital.

A police vehicle was also damaged in nearby Lord Street.

Shots Fired At West Belfast Home

Shots have been fired at the window of a house in west Belfast.

A window was damaged in the attack, which occurred in the Ard na Va Road area at about 20:00 last night.

No one was in the home at the time and there were no injuries.

Fire Crews Tackling Warrenpoint Harbour Fire

Fire crews are tackling a fire aboard an animal feed ship at Warrenpoint harbour in County Down.

The ship caught fire on Tuesday morning. Six fire engines from Newry, Kilkeel, Warrenpoint and Rathrifland were called to the blaze at about 08:25.

Police Ombudsman to investigate use of baton rounds
The Police Ombudsman office has confirmed that it is to investigate the use of plastic baton rounds fired as police attempted to deal with violent disturbances between rival factions in east Belfast. Serious rioting broke out in east Belfast on Tuesday afternoon in broad daylight.

L'Derry Properties Raided In Lyra McKee Murder Probe
Police have carried out a number of searches in L'Derry this morning as part of the investigation into the murder of Lyra McKee. A number of items were seized and taken for further examination, however no arrests were made. Ms McKee was shot dead in Creggan on Thursday 18 April during a night of dissident republican rioting.

Court appearance for attempted murder accused
A 41-year-old man charged with eight counts of attempted murder is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today. The charges relate to a shooting incident in Cooke Street, in the lower Ormeau Road area of south Belfast in July of this year.
