£14m Forensic Lab Announced
A new £14m forensics laboratory is to be built at the Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) site at Carrickfergus.
Construction of the laboratory is due to be completed during September 2015 and fitted out and fully operational by March 2016.
When fully operational, the new laboratory will be used for DNA processing and evidence recovery facilities.
Justice Minister David Ford said: "Forensic science has a crucial role providing support to the justice system. Forensic Science Northern Ireland is already a leader in its use of DNA 17 techniques and the new laboratory will help deliver on my commitment to a faster and fairer justice system for the community in Northern Ireland."
