Tyrone Company Convicted Of Pollution

A Tyrone company has pleaded guilty and been fined £7,000, plus Court Costs of £25 and Offenders Levy of £15, at Dungannon Magistrates Court today.

The charges arose from an inspection on 10 June 2013 of Benburb Bramleys Limited on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.

Officers inspected an unnamed tributary of the Blackwater River and observed solid pieces of apple in the waterway. The Inspector traced the source of the pollution to a recent discharge of apple processing waste that had left the premises of Benburb Bramleys Limited, 228 Derryfubble Road, Benburb, Dungannon.

A sample taken from below the Benburb Bramleys Limited premises contained poisonous, noxious and polluting matter that would have been potentially harmful to aquatic.

Farmer Fined For Transporting Injured Animal

A Tyrone farmer has been fined after he was convicted of transporting an animal with a broken leg.

Colin James Busby, Armaloughey Road, Ballygawley, Dungannon, was convicted at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on one charge of transporting an animal to an abattoir in Northern Ireland in a manner that caused or was likely to cause unnecessary suffering.

Mr Busby pleaded guilty and was fined £400 plus £22 costs and £15 offenders levy.

Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A woman has been convicted at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

22-year-old Rebecca Forde of Swanlinbar Road, Garvary claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,464 while failing to declare employment. She was given a two year conditional discharge.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Man Attacked In Car Theft Attempt

A man has been attacked in west Belfast in a failed attempt to steal his car keys.

The 41-year-old was on Violet Street on Sunday 30 November at about 19:45 when a group of six young people approached him and demanded his car keys.

The group threatened him with what is believed to have been a pellet gun. When he refused to hand over the keys, he was punched in the face. The group then fled the scene empty handed.

Four Northern Ireland prisoners, including two convicted murderers, are on the run after escaping from prison last month. The Department of Justice have currently listed the four convicts as "unlawfully at large". Samuel McKinley has been on the run since 19 January and he was convicted of murder.

Omagh Blaze Father's Past Revealed
The Omagh father suspected of burning his family and himself to death earlier this week was a convicted sex offender and one of his victims has been talking about her experience. She said she feared for the family's safety having been indecently assaulted by Arthur McElhill in 1993 after he broke into her home.

Street Drinkers Pay The Cost
Five people have been fined at Belfast Magistrates Court for drinking alcohol in public. Tyrone McCann, from Richmond Avenue in Newtownabbey, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Suffolk Road in west Belfast on January 16.

Jail 'Cell-Wrecking' Trial Adjourned
The trial of 11 republicans accused of wrecking their Maghaberry prison cells has been adjourned, the Belfast Telegraph has reported. Proceedings were halted at Belfast Crown Court because a witness was not available.
