NI Food Businesses To Display Allergy Info

New legislation is to come into effect tomorrow that will require food businesses across Northern Ireland to provide allergy information.

The rules relate to unpackaged food in catering outlets, deli counters, bakeries, sandwich bars etc.

The new law will also see changes to existing legislation on labelling allergenic ingredients in prepacked foods.

Two Men Released Over Dissident Activity

Two of three men arrested as part of investigations into dissident republican activity in L'Derry have been released unconditionally.

The men, aged 24, 25 and 43, were arrested in the cityside and Waterside areas on Thursday and taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

The 25 and 43-year-olds have now been released.

Omagh School Alert Ends

A security alert has ended at a primary school in County Tyrone after it was declared a hoax.

Pupils and staff were evacuated from Omagh County Primary School yesterday afternoon and moved to Omagh High School. The alert was triggered when information was received that a device had been left in the building.

Downpatrick Specialist Care Unit Opens

A new specialist care unit has been opened within Lecale Lodge Care Home in Downpatrick, County Down.

Having provided £250,000 capital investment, Four Seasons Health Care (FSHC) have worked with the South Eastern HSC Trust to create the 15-bed, single room specialist service.

Registered by the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA), Slieve Patrick is now home to 13 people.

Officially opening the unit, Heath Minister Jim Wells said: "It has been a pleasure to visit Slieve Patrick to see for myself this fantastic new service and meet with staff, who are dedicated to providing excellent care to some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

"The core ethos of the unit is recognising that each individual is unique and providing support to maximise independence, maximise recovery and reduce risk and social inclusion. It is encouraging to see there is a strong focus on promoting physical health and developing skills to boost self-esteem and transform the lives of residents."

Appeal Following Fatal Collision In Broughshane
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a fatal collision in Broughshane on Tuesday, 07 May. A 41-year-old man from the Glenarm area, named by the PSNI as Connor McNeill, was driving a grey Nissan X-Trail on the Carnlough Road when it left the carriageway shortly before 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

£5m Announced For NI's Care Home Sector
A £5 million support package has been announced to help Northern Ireland's care home sector with rising energy costs. Care homes, like the rest of society, have been dealing with sharply rising energy prices. The £5m funding will be allocated by HSC Trusts on the basis of bed numbers per home.

A care home group is offering job opportunities for the unemployed in Belfast following completion of a four-week training programme. Macklin Care Homes, which operates six homes in Northern Ireland, has developed a scheme to equip unemployed members of society with recognised qualifications in health and social care skills.
