Six Fined Over Fisheries Offences

Six men have been fined for fisheries offences at Downpatrick Court.

Philip Gaw, of Innishargie Gardens, Bangor, was found guilty of unlicensed angling, unauthorised entry on a fishery, impeding an officer and use of matter of vegetable origin (sweetcorn).

The offence took place at Lough Money. He was fined a total of £500, with costs of £75, court costs of £38 and an offender levy of £15.

Patrick Trawicki, of Clarmont Avenue in Castlewellan, was found guilty of unlicensed angling and unauthorised entry on a fishery. The offence took place at Castlewellan Lake. Mr Trawicki was fined a total of £150, with costs of £75, court costs of £67 and an offender levy of £15.

Karol Jarusinski, of Lower Square in Castlewellan, was found guilty of unauthorised entry on a fishery at Castlewellan Lake. He received a fine of £100, with costs of £75, court costs of £38 and an offender levy of £15.

Lucas Kasprzac, also of Lower Square in Castlewellan, was found guilty of unauthorised entry on a fishery at the same lake. He too was fined a total of £100, with costs of £75, court costs of £38 and an offender levy of £15.

Elsewhere, Jim McKay, of Carrickree Mews in Warrenpoint, was found guilty of unauthorised entry on a fishery at Castlewellan Lake. Mr McKay was fined a total of £100, with costs of £75, court costs of £29 and an offender levy of £15.

Marjius Gineitis, of Tullybrannigan Road in Newcastle, was found guilty of use of a vegetable origin power bait. The offence took place at Lough Money. He was fined a total of £100, with costs of £75, court costs of £38 and an offender levy of £15.

Resurfacing Works For Greencastle Announced

A £190,000 resurfacing scheme is to commence this week in Greencastle.

The project will be undertaken on the B46 Crockanboy Road, between Greencastle Village and Rousky.

Work is due to begin on 8 January.

In order to allow the work to go ahead, a full closure of the B46 Crockanboy Road will be in place between 8am on 8 January and 6pm on 23 January. The scheme is expected to be completed on 23 January.

Diversions will be in place for motorists.

Man Robbed At West Belfast Cemetery

A man has been robbed at knifepoint at a cemetery in west Belfast, it has been reported.

The man is understood to have been walking through the cemetery, situated on the Falls Road in the city, at around 10.30pm on Saturday when the incident occurred.

He is said to have been approached by two men. One produced a knife and demanded the victim's phone and wallet. He handed the items over.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Gerard Browne, 29, of Summerhill Drive, Belfast was given 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £377.

Street Drinkers Pay The Cost
Five people have been fined at Belfast Magistrates Court for drinking alcohol in public. Tyrone McCann, from Richmond Avenue in Newtownabbey, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Suffolk Road in west Belfast on January 16.

Man Fined £30k Over Planning Non-Compliance
A man from Newry, County Down, has been fined £30,000 at Newry Magistrates' Court for non-compliance with a Department of the Environment Planning Enforcement Notice. Mr Francis McGuiness of Newtown Road, Cloughoge, Newry was found guilty and must also pay £805 in legal costs and £15 court costs.
