Minister unveils £1.6m bus system
NIO Minister John Spellar has unveiled a £1.6 million system which will supply passengers real-time information on bus arrivals.
BUS TRAK is a hi-tech project jointly funded by Roads Service and Translink, now operating on the Centrelink and City Express bus routes in Belfast.
The Minister said: "Passengers clearly want accurate, up-to-date information on bus arrival times. This high tech project uses satellite technology to track buses ensuring that real time information is now available to waiting passengers.
"BUS TRAK provides immediate benefits to passengers and demonstrates the Department’s determination to utilise technology to provide a better service to passengers and encourage greater use of the public transport system.
This first phase of BUS TRAK cost £600,000 and included equipping 21 vehicles with computers, installing on–board bus displays and public information screens at selected bus stops on the Centrelink and City Express routes and enhanced signalling at 25 junctions to provide priority for buses.
The sophisticated bus management system and a new voice radio system will also provide enhanced communication between the Translink control room and bus drivers.

Translink Bus Strike 'Back On' From 17-23 May
The bus strike "is back on", the GMB Union has announced after their members rejected a revised pay offer. The union has said that drivers, cleaners and shunters across the company will walk out for seven days from 17 to 23 May 2022, "causing the entire bus network to grind to a halt".

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a two-vehicle collision in Ballygawley. On Sunday, 21 April, a blue BMW M4 and a black Kia Sportage were involved in a collision in the Old Omagh Road area just before 4pm.

PSNI Appeal For Information Following Banbridge Shooting
PSNI Detectives have issued an appeal for information following a shooting incident in Banbridge on Friday, 12 April. Shortly after 8pm, it was reported that a man aged in his 40s had been shot in his abdomen while in the car park on Rathfriland Road. Taken to hospital, his condition has been described as serious.

Four Die In Fatal Collision In Armagh In Early Hours Of 24 March
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a fatal collision in Armagh in the early hours of Sunday, 24 March. A driver and three passengers died when the grey Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in crashed on the Ballynahonemore Road at around 2.10am.
