Call For NI Arts Strategy
The Executive must work towards creating a strategy to promote the arts across Northern Ireland, according to Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín.
The Minister made the comments at the first meeting of the Ministerial Arts Advisory Forum (MAAF), which has been set up to inform an arts and culture strategy.
"Arts aren’t a luxury and I appreciate that there is limited funding but we must make sure that the funding that is available is dispersed as fairly as possible, and reaches out to support those accessing the arts for the first time," she said. "For example young people, non-attenders, those with a disability and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
"I believe the time is right to bring forward an arts strategy to promote the arts as a valued contributor to the health and well being of our society and underpin the core value that arts should be accessible to all and that anyone who wishes to avail of the benefits they bring should have the opportunity to do so."

Crescent Arts Centre Restoration Complete
The newly refurbished Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast has been re-opened, following an 18-month restoration project. The £7.2m scheme involved a refurbishment and restoration, which has preserved the exterior façade of the Grade II listed building. The refurbished centre includes an extension that increases the accommodation by approximately 900m2.

Latest City Of Culture News Released
The newest details of the L’Derry City of Culture events programme have been revealed by the Arts Council in Northern Ireland. The news follows an investment of £1m in 18 new arts projects. The funding will support local arts organisations in new artistic ventures, including theatre productions, live music, dance performances and the visual arts.

The Infrastructure Minister, John O'Dowd, has met with PSNI Chief Superintendent, Sam Donaldson, to discuss potential safety improvements on the A5. Twenty-two people have lost their lives on the roads across the north this year with the most recent tragedy taking place last night.

More than 4,000 'testers' have sampled NI's rich, cultural arts scene for the very first time, thanks to Test Drive the Arts NI. Celebrating its first birthday this month, Test Drive the Arts has helped pack-out theatres and venues as newcomers to the arts experienced some of the hottest shows.
