HRC Brings Abortion Law Change To High Court

The High Court will today decide if the abortion laws in Northern Ireland should be reviewed, in a case being brought by the Human Rights Commission (HRC).

Currently abortion is only under the law if a woman's life is at risk or there is a serious risk of permanent damage to her mental or physical health.

The HRC are calling for a change to allow abortions to be legally carried out in cases of rape, incest or "serious malformation" of a foetus.

The High Court will today decide if the HRM case should proceed to a full hearing.
