Ulster Unionist Candidate Selected For South Belfast

Rodney McCune has been selected as the Ulster Unionist Candidate for South Belfast for the forthcoming General Election.

Mr McCune said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been selected by my Party to contest the South Belfast seat at the forthcoming Westminster election.

"Over the coming weeks I look forward to further engaging people on their doorsteps offering my vision of how South Belfast could be better represented at Westminster in the future.

"I am hugely proud of coming from Belfast, and I believe our city has only realised a fraction of its full potential as a modern, attractive and tourist friendly European city."

Teenage Dreams Mural In East Belfast Restored

The restoration of the Teenage Dreams wall art at Bridge End, East Belfast, has been welcomed by the Alliance Party.

East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle said: "It has taken some time and effort but Teenage Dreams are being restored in East Belfast.

"The mural is part of a community art and music project supported by the Department for Social Development, Belfast City Council, Start Together Studios, East Belfast Partnership, youth workers and artists.

"It has involved young people from across the interface in East Belfast working together with artists on two wall art projects and a musical production, all of which will be officially launched later this month."

Regeneration Works In Glengormley Welcomed

The Social Development Minister has welcomed the regeneration works at Portland Avenue in Glengormley which saw £370,000 invested in the area.

The works include regeneration of pavements and kerbs and the installation of a new car parking area, along with new street lighting, furniture and planting.

Minister Mervyn Storey said: "I very much welcome the completion of this scheme as Public Realm improvements can play a pivotal role in the regeneration of our towns. Enhancing the appearance and aesthetics of Portland Avenue has made Glengormley's town centre more welcoming. Not only will this support existing traders, but it will act a catalyst for new investment."

Former east Belfast UDA leader has bank accounts frozen
Former east Belfast UDA leader Jim Gray has had his bank accounts frozen, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard today. The 47-year-old, who was charged at the weekend with possessing and concealing criminal property but who denies the charges, appeared by video link from Maghaberry Prison and spoke only to confirm his name.

Police Use Of Tasers Was 'Lawful' And 'Necessary' - Report
Ten incidents in which police fired Tasers between July 2012 and June last year were "justified", a Police Ombudsman report has concluded. Dr Michael Maguire found that the use of Taser had on each occasion been lawful, proportionate and necessary given the risks faced by officers and the danger posed to members of the public.

Belfast Bikes Public Hire Scheme Extends Into East Belfast
The Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Belfast Bikes public hire scheme has expanded into east Belfast. A new docking station has been installed at the C.S. Lewis Square and marks the first phase of the bike scheme's expansion into the east of the city, with three more stations planned for 2017.

East Belfast Set For £20m Development
A major regeneration project in east Belfast - expected to cost £20m overall - is set to involve a state-of-art facility which will house the long established East Belfast Mission's existing services such as its homeless hostel, employment programs, social and economic projects and elderly services.
