Northern Ireland Solar Eclipse Ends

People in Northern Ireland witnessed a rare glimpse of the solar eclipse on Friday morning.

The eclipse blocks out 90% of the sun, and put much of Northern Ireland in the shadows at around 9.30am.

The last time a solar eclipse occurred in NI was around 15 years ago.

The Public Health Authority previously issued a warning against looking directly at the sun.

Dr Jackie McCall, Consultant in Public Health at the PHA, said: "Whilst a solar eclipse is an amazing and infrequent event, the public must remember that looking directly at the sun can lead to retinal burns and permanent loss of sight. Looking directly at the eclipse is the same. An eclipse is a relatively slow process, so people might end up accidentally looking at the sun for minutes."
